Our guest this week is Carolyn Reckhow, a Blockchain Enthusiast and Director of Operations at ConsenSys. Her mind is a necessary part of the “blockchain 2.0”/Ethereum industry as it has grown from a research project into helping Fortune 500 companies build production blockchain applications. We chat about remedying some of the social and economic inequity issues facing the developing world. With blockchain identity solutions (like uPort for example) there are fascinating possibilities for new business models around putting personal data back into the hands of the people. In a world where AI systems profit from our personal information, blockchain identity solutions present an alternative vision of the future where people can be enriched from “Big Data” through privacy and granular & incentivized permission systems, rather than threatened by the increasingly centralized mountain of information in our current networks.
Carolyn is also mentoring for the BSIC Decentralized #ImpactIncubator to solve global challenges in hardware, democracy, agriculture and refugees using #blockchain. The Decentralized Impact Incubator is a 6-week program to ideate and prototype blockchain-based solutions to global social and environmental challenges.
